We use the published date or the recurrence rule configured for that event.
Your browser supplies the current time and device time zone.
The live timer updates the remaining days, hours, minutes and seconds.
Fixed annual events use their Gregorian month and day. When one passes, the countdown advances to the next configured date or the same calendar date in the following year. If that day does not exist in the new year, the last valid day of the month is used. Events with an announced schedule can be updated editorially.
For Ramadan and Islamic holidays, we find the next matching Hijri month and day using the Umm al-Qura calendar. The resulting Gregorian date is shown as an expected date for planning.
Western Easter is calculated separately for every Gregorian year with the computus. It is the Sunday associated with the first ecclesiastical full moon on or after the March equinox, so it can fall from March 22 through April 25.
A weekly countdown advances in seven-day steps. For pages such as “How many Sundays until Christmas?”, we count each matching weekday from the device’s current local date through the event date. Today is included when it is the requested weekday, and the event date is included when it falls on that weekday.
Each unit answers a slightly different question:
The live display uses your browser clock and the time zone configured on your device. Date names are formatted for the page language. If your device time, date or time zone is incorrect, the countdown may also be incorrect.
For recurring pages, the next valid target is selected automatically. Future-date tables remove dates that have passed and add the next year or occurrence. Year variables in headings and SEO text follow the active target, while editors can still override content for a special schedule.
